Football season is here!

by on Aug.29, 2009, under Sports Photos

The Jefferson County teams kicked off the Football season tonight in the midst of some pesky rain/mist showers. Making it a bit interesting to cover the games. Fortunately I was at Hillsboro which is one of the finer facilities in the county, with an Astroturf surface which kept me from walking in mud all night. Hillsboro and Seckman are both coming off difficult seasons last year, with both teams looking to put some W’s in the win Column. Tonight was Seckman’s turn to put up the W, defeating the Hawks 43-6.

Crystal City vs Herculaneum

by on Aug.27, 2009, under Sports Photos

Today I was once again on the softball diamond. This time covering varsity level and the Crystal City Hornets were visiting the Herky BlackCats. What a good game, 1-0 lead by Crystal going into the bottom of the 7th and Herky was able to push two runs across the plate to pick up the early season win.

Fall Sports are here again.

by on Aug.23, 2009, under Sports Photos

It really doesn’t matter what you like best during the fall season, there is almost always something happening. I’m glad to see the dog days of summer(although it really wasn’t that hot) to be over and my favorite time of year to begin. Football, soccer, softball, Cross country, volleyball……..the list goes on and on. There is always something to see and something to cover. I just wish we had a paper with enough pages to cover it all! I started out shooting some action by covering the Jefferson College Alumni game this weekend, then its right into Softball and football for me this week. All the team and individual photos for the paper are out of the way and its time to shoot some action! See you on the field or in the gym.

Day Two

by on Aug.01, 2009, under Sports Photos

I attended day two of the Tanner Boynton tournament, covering a couple of games before the rain came and set the schedule back. Action going on six different fields at the same time and a nice tribute held by the team and AAA for Tanner. I hope this is a yearly event.

Tanner Boynton Tournament

by on Jul.31, 2009, under Sports Photos

I was given an assignment to cover a Memorial Tournament at Arnold Athletic Association fields. Tanner Boynton lost his life at this very field last year playing a game he loved. He is from my home town and is remembered by all of the players, coaches, and parents. I’m hoping this tournament becomes a yearly thing and that his memory is never forgotten. While I never met Tanner I have photographed games he was at before, and his love of the game was easy to see. Tonight I covered a 9U game. Tomorrow I’ll see Tanner’s team.

by on Jul.26, 2009, under Sports Photos

Well as with all good thing they must come to an end. I have had such a good time following the youngsters playing little league the past few weeks, however De Soto 11 year olds had their year come to an end today at the state level of play. They had a great All Stars Season and should hold their heads high with how they played.

1988-1989 DHS Girls State Basketball Champions

by on Jul.25, 2009, under Sports Photos

Tonight I was at a small reunion for the Missouri State basketball championship teams from 1988 and 1989. They were Jefferson Counties first State Basketball champions. And even tougher they did it back to back. I was fortunate enough to be a member of the DHS class of 1989 and experience this first hand with my classmates and friends. It was great to catch up with some of them at the reunion, and we were honored with the presence of Kim Mahn to whom a scholarship has been started in her name. One of the most amazing players to have ever played girls basketball in the state of Missouri.

11 year old State level Round 1

by on Jul.24, 2009, under Sports Photos

Tonights little league action was seemingly over before it started. The De Soto team came out firing on all cylinders and beat Northwest 15-5 in a mercy run shortened game. Tomorrow they will face a tougher challenge and I’ll be there as well. Tomorrow night I’ll be at the reunion of the DHS State Championship teams from 1988 and 1989.
