Some of the toughest things for me to shoot is Track and Field. The events are scattered over a long way, they sometimes mix JV and Varsity(we usually only cover varsity), and getting correct ID’s can be tough as you have to chase down the athlete that you just photographed. Here are a few from the event held at Fox high school. It was cold but at least it wasnt pouring rain like it was last year.

Well on Monday night I was sent to cover the Seckman C hockey team play Kirkwood in the championship game. Of all the hockey games I have covered for the paper in my two years there, this was by far the most meaningful, and also the most exciting. The game was scoreless into the third, Seckman scored first then gave up sort of a bad goal. The goalie then redeamed himself by stopping a penalty shot late in the game to give them a chance to go into overtime, where they won it. Below are a couple of photos from the game.

Well as the title states, for the teams that we cover, the season is over. Crystal City Hornets ran into a quick defensive team in Maplewood Richmond Heights last night. They took the game over with their defense and hit many outside shots and forced several turn overs. It was a tough way for the Crystal City seniors to end their season, but can hold their heads high for having a great season and making it to the sectional round of the state tournament. Oddly enough the same two schools met in the sectional football round and MPH also won that game. Below Crystal City’s Gerrico Shanklin gets tripped up by MPH players as he drives the lane.

OK so about 3 times a year I get an assignment to shoot high school club hockey. So having alot of time to get good at it, isnt something I get to do. Shooting through the glass at these places isnt an option, its horribly dirty. So I shoot from the end of the benches. Not the best angle for the good action. But you get what you can to cover an assignment. Below Kristena Wampler makes a save, and Alumni Justin Boyce puts the puck into the net.

Well after a couple of weeks with no assignments, tonight I had to shake the rust off and get back to work. Crystal City took on West County tonight in the District title game. They won the game and are headed to Sectionals to play Maplewood for a shot at going to the state final four.

Well today I spent the better part of 10 hours at the Edward Jones dome for Monster Jam with my son. He loves the trucks and we always go there for his Birthday. Its a blast for me as well, as the 548 photos I took today might suggest. I’ll post up a gallery of some of it sometime this week. I have some other work I need to take care of in the meantime. This photo is a view from our seats, its 4 photos stitched together. Click the photo to go to a larger web view. I have posted a few photos from the weekend here.

Well after another week where my assignments got scrapped due to weather, I’m going on my own to shoot a basketball game, just trying to get some time in the viewfinder. I find myself being off in my timing with too much time off. So tonight will find me at my old Alma Mater shooting some hoops. Wow what a rough night for the De Soto team tonight. They ran into a very good and big Cape Notre Dame team. They were losing at halftime by quite a bit when I had to leave. So only shot to halftime. They lost by 34 according to the report I got. Here is one from tonight. Click the photo to see more from tonights game.

Tonights basketball game was pretty big in terms of the conference. Alot has changed since the last game I covered. Hillsboro held their fate in their own hands. They went to Festus and lost a big conference game, then went into Crystal and lost again. Crystal plays a tough defense and has some really athletic kids in the starting line up. One of them may very well be the conference MVP. Crystal now has a chance to share the conference championship with De Soto with a win this week against St. Pius, which is where you will find me on wednesday night. Click on the photo to see more of the game.

Hillsboro came away with a win, and now it comes down to this friday to see who will win, or share the conference championship. I’ve posted a gallery of about 70 photos from the night click the first photo to open the gallery in the same window, click the second to open in a new window. Got comments on the game or my photos? Well unfortunatly this weeks assignments were cancelled by the 8 inches of snow we recieved. Next week is De Soto vs. Hillsboro basketball on the 5th. And the 8th will see me at the Hillsboro at Crystal City game. Check back next week for photos and stories. For now I’ll just go play in the snow.
